
Gabrielle Gareau
The BCA presented the 2020 Paul Van Steen Award to Gaby Gareau. Gaby excels in several sports at the highest possible level. She has played AA hockey for most of her life, being recruited to play in the PWHL’s Central York Panthers. She also committed to play U Sports hockey at the Toronto Metropolitan University. Gaby made it to the Ottawa regional AA hockey championship 10 times and won 8 of those times, being one of the top two scorers on the team. Gaby won an international hockey tournament with the East Coast selects in Bolzano Italy, playing top teams from Sweden, Finland, Russia, Italy, and North America. Gaby is also a high-level wrestler, and was the 2020 Ontario Winter Games wrestling champion. For the last three years she has helped run hockey camps for younger kids at Carleton University, the Sensplex, and Central York Panthers hockey camps. She helped in the She Shoots, She Scores initiative and started to umpire in softball at the age of 12 and still does! She also coached younger gr. 7-8 wrestlers when in high school. Gaby graduated with honors was the only Health & Science Schism recipient at her school.
